CEX is the retail version, probably the one that you bought. DEX is the debug version or the test version used by developers. Firmwares like Rogero, Rebug-LITE and Habib are CEX firmwares whereas firmwares like PS3ita are DEX. If you use Rebug firmware (not LITE) you can flash from CEX to DEX and vice versa.

Nope, I have a CEX PS3, I flashed it to DEX long time ago for modding until modding on CEX was made easier because DEX is kinda messier than CEX.

It really doesn't matter, if you're on PS3ita, which is a DEX firmware, you'll get the normal PSN logo. It's only on Rebug firmwares you'll find a red PSN logo.

Easiest thing to check is whether the screen when you first turn on your PS3, or your XMB background, mentions Rogero or PS3ITA or anything other than normal boring Sony stuff? How do you currently mod games, do you use Target Manager on your computer or did you install CCAPI on your console?
