(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have fan utility downloaded but it seems as if it doesn't do anything. My CPU goes to 86 as soon as I turn it on. I then get a warning saying my PS3 is to hot and it will soon shut off, Which is exactly what happens. I have a PHAT jailbroken PS3. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? This problem was not occurring before?!?!

do people just make advice up on here?

first of all, update your firmware.

secondly when you have updated your firmware check the temps.

if you chose the correct firmware, it will have a built in system temp and fan adjust monitoring, if you chose the wrong firmware you will have to install this manually like you already have done.

thirdly it doesnt matter what thermal paste you use, in testing it made no difference.

86 is quite hot for a ps3's chips, but 70 is quite normal for a cfw.

when you set the temp control software set it to auto @ 60 deg, should find a nice balance between noise and cooling.

depending on your model of ps3 try turning on fan maintenance mode, could be a lot of dust buildup in the heatsink fins.

and if all this fails, then and only then think about taking it apart to re-paste the chips. especially if you are a novice. and if you are going to the trouble of taking it apart, bake it to save you having to do it all again.

He clearly needs to apply new paste.... And firmware will make a difference yes as cobra based firmware can be quite stressful but on all 4 of my ps3 i can proove that after doing a reball and applying artic silver 5 my temps stay at 46-53 on both with fan utility...

If i set my fan utitlity to auto 30 deg, the ps3 will strangely always be 30 deg, i cant figure out why /sarc

lol

It might still be just dust in the heatsinks, OP never said it does this from cold or not. Just as soon as they turn it on. If its hitting 86 from cold its not going to be thermal paste because even if there was none there it would conduct enough heat away to stay cool with a clear air flowing heatsink (tested!)

Yes true but he could have his ps3 on standby which will produce heat as there is a current going through the board to keep the red light on... Plus if his ps3 is shooting straight up to 86 degrees from a cold boot it could be that his getting to many volts come through his mains and this is "over powering" (if you will) his ps3. Sounds stupid but its definitely not unheard of.

Worth investigating.

Also does OP live in a climate that is very hot.

I think he lives in america... Im talking to him on skype now. He thought cold boot meant the boot logo of his ps3... But on a serious note he defo needs some new paste has his fans are on 5th gear after cold boot.
