Post: [Hardcore Newb] How would I go about downgrading my PS3?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi I know there probably has been hundreds of people who asked the same thing, but all the ones I have seen seem to to be asked by people who have at least a little knowledge. So please bear with me.
I've always wanted to jailbreak my PS3. Mainly to mod offline because I know I can be banned. I already have a downgrade compatible ps3 Nand and usb drive just in case. Anyway, what would I need to buy to completely downgrade my PS3 without issues? I know I need something called e3 flasher, but I also heard I need a bunch of other stuff like sdhc card and downgrade dongle. Plus I hear buying the wrong dongle can mess it up.My goals are to downgrade my PS3 to 3.55, but also be able to switch to 4.70 (the latest) to play online (which I heard you can do). After I downgrade, I want to jailbreak (obviously) and be able to mod game files offline. What would I need to buy? If possible please leave me links to the best and cheapest things I need, but ones that are top rated and work. Thank you very much I really am looking forward to modding.

I have the slim sadly.I'd totally buy one (they're pretty cheap) but they also don't last as long.

ok first of all don't listen to toxic modz as he doesn't know what es talking about... the cechh 40 gb models are NOR so disregard the above info.
Now in all honesty if you really are that much of a noob don't attempt it on your personal console, buy a cheap one with a faulty blurry drive to practice on as you won't need the BR if you succeed and if you screw it up its $30 gone not $100.
Now this here is the bible to downgrading in my opinion, study it a few times, search anything your unsure of and don't rush it

it can be frustrating the first couple of times just don't rush it... good luck with your venture

Just something you can keep in mind all slim models are NOR consoles, only the original fat consoles CECHA - CECHG were NAND

NAND consoles wont ask you to re-install Firmwares even if you changed your HDD with a new one. While NOR, it does.

- NAND consoles will save you from firmwares had HDD upgrade issue.

- NAND consoles took 9-12minutes to install a firmware, while NOR will only took around 2-3minutes.

PS3 Fat:
NAND PHATS
*CECHA = 256MB
*CECHB = 256MB
*CECHC = 256MB
*CECHE = 256MB
*CECHG = 256MB
----------------
NOR PHATS
*CECHH = 16MB
*CECHJ = 16MB
*CECHK = 16MB
*CECHL = 16MB
*CECHM = 16MB
*CECHP = 16MB
*CECHQ = 16MB

* PS3 Slim:
NOR
*CECH-20..A = 16MB
*CECH-20..B = 16MB
*CECH-21..A = 16MB
*CECH-21..B = 16MB
*CECH-250.A = 16MB
*CECH-250.B = 16MB
*CECH-250.A = 16MB
*CECH-250.B = 16MB
*CECH-251.A = 16MB
*CECH-251.B = 16MB

Oh ok. Well I've stripped ps3s and Xboxes before, I just don't understand the terminology. I would like to have (or buy like you said) a slim PS3 with 3.55 fw. Whatever is cheaper, I'm down for. What is a "faulty blurry drive" and where would I buy one?

A faulty blueray drive is a broken blue ray drive... You dont want to buy one of those, you want to buy a ps3 with a broken blueray drive already in it to practice.

But StinkyNutz told me 40gb (older ps3s) are Nor. I'm not sure who to believe.
