After that happens, does it just go back to the restore screen? You could try going into recovery mode(if you can get into it), then go to rebuild database and restoring the file system. I don't think that will work though, also could try reinstalling the same firmware you're currently on.

If you can, try skipping the restore file system part and once you get back to the XMB menu go to the user tab and select turn off PS3 and everything should be fine Enzo

It's just black and I have to unplug it to turn it off and once I turn it back on I get the restore screen

After it finishes restoring try holding down the home button and turning off the system. If not try restoring it from the recovery menu

If you already know how to get into the recovery menu just choose the option to restore file system. If you dont know how to get into the recovery menu heres how:

1. Turn off the PS3
2. Hold down the power button until you hear 3 beeps
3. Let go and hold down the power button until you here 2 beeps and then a double beep.
4. Plug the controller into the charger and follow the onscreen intructions
