(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); OK... First off I am running 4.78 dex and also have current version of mmcm. Also packages I installed..PS ninja, rebug toolbox, psn patch, cobra, irisman and ccapi. I downloaded the package file webman mod and here is where the problem starts. It downloaded fine installed ok but after system restart it made it to the xmb screen and froze! So I had to hold the power button down to shut of. Whe it came back on, said files have to be restored pressed x....restored files ok and when back to xmb same ole FREEZE. So I tried reinstalling current firmware no luck just says install 3.40 or higher. SO I remormatted hdd, now when I start get to xmb top right corner says ccapi cannot load, but the funny thing is when i go under games in xmb ccapi is not there! How do I get rid of ccapi for good?? I think this is my problem!! I also reinstalled rebug toolbox and multiman. PLEASE help me out!!

I doubt ccapi is the cause of any freezing or troubles but who knows..Most likely it has to do with compatibility issues with whatever else you are installing/using.

If you reinstalled your cfw AND reformatted your hdd, then ccapi is most definitely uninstalled from your ps3.

I tried everything and couldn't get my cfw to install. Would I maybe benefit from formatting HDD on my PC?

So I formatted my hard drive. When I went under mini tool partioner the hard drive was basically blank. I created a new partioner formatted primary and fat32 . when I put the hard drive back in the ps3 and turn it on the green light comes on for a second then something makes a clicking sound and then powers completely off, red light even goes out. Can't get in safe mode either. What did I do???

Hmm..given the situation with your freezing, etc. I'd say your console has overheated... YLOD.

At this point, you can change your thermal paste and hope for the best. If it does not solve the problem, it will need a reflow, a reball, or to be replaced..

When I took it apart to flash, I used Thermaltake TG-7 Thermal grease. Should I have used something different?

Replaced do you mean my system? Or the hard drive? Is there anything I can do to diagnose before tearing apart? Thank for the imput!

On Ps3s, I suggest only using arctic silver 5. It is 99% silver and the texture is like none of the others. The application should be thin, flat, and evenly spread.

Yes, I would mean that the console would only continually suffer from overheat damages and no longer be very useful without a reflow(and that only lasts for so long..maybe a day, maybe a year) or a reball(which would basically completely redo your two main chips, CPU & GPU).

If the console is no longer turning on, then something has definitely gone wrong and needs repaired.

The only real thing you could do right now before tearing it apart is to see if it will boot at all in any way, or try a known working harddrive and see if it will boot. If none of that is helping/working, then most likely something has shorted or it is just typical overheat/ylod stuff.

So I ordered some arctic silver 5, and also tore my ps3 down to the mother board and cleaned off the Thermaltake TG-7 Thermal grease shit that I had put on. This stuff says it has diamond powder, and doesn't mention silver anywhere on the package. Trust me I have learned my lesson.....RESEARCH before jumping into things! When I receive my arctic silver should I try the new paste and put it back together and see if it works? There are so many vids on you tube for ylod. Im really hoping the paste I applied was the problem. I hate to try another fix if I dont need to.

Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound is a reliable choice for preventing the CPU in your computer from overheating. The enhanced ceramic particles in this high-density thermal compound help to conduct and draw heat away from the CPU, improving performance. Made with 99.9 percent pure silver, Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound uses triple-phase viscosity to ensure optimal physical contact between your heatsink and CPU. Designed for superior stability and performance, this Arctic Silver Thermal Compound will not separate or run during application but stay where it is placed. This 3.5 gram syringe contains enough high-density thermal compound to be used on several CPU cores. Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound is designed to be conductive only to heat rather than electricity and so is safer to use than electrically conductive materials.

Changing the thermal paste is the LEAST you could do. A reflow is the next, cheapest option, but a reflow could last a day, a month, a year. You just don't know. If you are already comfortable taking apart the console and changing paste, then it's probably cheaper to just go buy a heatgun and attempt it yourself, rather than have it done by someone.. A reball is the top repair but that could cost you over $100 to have done, and even reballs fail at some point, sometimes even immediately if not done correctly.

If the paste doesn't help, and a reflow doesn't help or you don't want to do it, it is probably that time to get a new console. Sal
