If I just have to apply a more pressure and it saves me 25 bucks sounds like it's worth it. Plus Elleusive if you've done many consoles with the same unit it sounds quite durable.


I'm at the stage about to order a flasher, any more advice from the experts in going through with this?

He is right..I mean but its the same with anything isn't it? You buy a brand name product, you expect nothing but the best. You buy an aftermarket product, you expect some issues..


IMO : If you have the money, get the authentic. If you don't, save up for it. Some ps3s will put you through enough trouble with an authentic, I couldn't imagine having to deal with anymore problems you would go through with an aftermarket. There are some things you buy aftermarket, but I would be careful making this one of those things. It could also depend on how many ps3s you plan on flashing..If it's a one time thing, maybe problems won't seem so bad to deal with, but if you plan on flashing a lot of consoles, you need trusted equipment.

It comes down to what you're prepared to spend. I've used the cheaper E3 and the authentic. The only obvious difference was how well the E3 Flasher sat over the NOR chip. Like I've mentioned, I had to apply some serious pressure with the E3 from China. It's not something you can do with your thumb. You need to keep it perfectly still and for long enough to extract a handful of identical dumps. I ended up using a STACK of books. You're also going to need a microSD if you haven't already got one.

I like the idea of having a nice unit I can reuse again, who knows I might be doing this again later on for myself or friends. It's like having a good tool in your toolbox, it can always come in handy again I suppose.

Plus there's the danger of me messing up and not applying enough force, I was already hesitant to remove the two logic boards since they were so stuck in changing the thermal paste, I wonder how much weight I would apply comfortably.

Having used both means you knew what you were doing so when you used the less expensive e3 you were able to compensate with experience. I just hope I don't brick this ps3, I mean 20 bucks more might save me 100 down the road I hope.

I have a microSD I can borrow from a cellphone that should do it.



And now because I'm 12 years old at heart:

I can't see myself being perfectly still using that much pressure to have good dumps. I use 'regular' force so the other e3 flasher might be better. I couldn't help it...I am shame.

how much would it be to get your ps3 downgraded as a service on ebay or something? yeh know send in ur ps3 and get it downgraded then sent back to u, may be easier

Checked the local shop they charge 80 bucks. They even sell you the CFW separately for 30 bucks! The funny thing is, the used ps3 I bought had been repaired at this shop and imo they didn't do a very good job. I took it apart and found screws in the wrong places and even some missing. The previous owner said they changed the blu-ray and they didn't bother to blow it out while they were doing it, it was pretty dusty inside I could tell it had never been done. I also checked ebay the Canadian service charges 70 bucks with shipping, at least include a cleaning of your ps3 out and change the thermal paste.

I don't have a problem doing it myself from my research it actually looks pretty straightforward. I probably would have someone else do it if the price was a little more reasonable, at these prices I might as well own the flasher and do it myself. Plus I don't mind having a new experience, I'm used to playing with computers this feels like playing with a MoBo's BIOS.

Another question about the software, people are using different CFW 3.55 any real differences between them? Geohot, Kmeaw, Rebug, Rogero etc? I've downloaded a few different ones, there used to be a lot of buzz around Rogero, but now it looks like Rebug is the way to go. Are some actually better than others? I guess if I'm going to upgrade for GTA V I need D-Rex and then eventually to this You must login or register to view this content. so I might as well keep it in the "Rebug family"?
