Read this from someone:

The ps3 will format the HDD when you stick it in there, don't downgrade your ps3. Just back up old HDD, swap HDD and then re-install your exact CFW, then put your apps back on and anything you backed up. you would have to have A dock to clone the drive and use the decrypter I believe to do that, I always use an external HDD. Also search the name of the game instead of posting abot that it probably a bdmirror issue. Yes you can just put your old hdd back in the console and it will work. I'm not sure about using it like a USB I doubt that will work unless you format it to FAT32

If you put a new HDD into a Nand model, it will format your whole PS3... which you for sure wouldn't want to happend.. (as a little warning)

Sorry, but i'm not a big ol' smart person when it comes to HDDs, lol. Give it a day, and you'll have responses quick.

The firmware is not on the hard drive so you won't lose it. If you place the hard drive, here's what you do:

If you were on DEX on your old hard drive, download a 3.55 DEX Downgrader and update to it on the new hard drive. Then, you can go to a DEX Firmware of your choice.

If you were on CEX on your old hard drive, download a 3.55 Rogero Downgrader and update to it on the new hard drive. After that, you can choose a CEX firmware of your choice to go up to.

You have it working now?

No, leave your original firmware on the old hard drive. Put in the new one. Install 3.55 DEX Downgrader. Then go up to a DEX CFW of your choice.

no
say your on 4.78 drex, just swap harddrive, reinstall 4.78 drex and then install whatever homebrew/apps you had or like
no need to downgrade, it will ask to reformat the harddrive hit yes. then it will install the cfw you have on the usb ie: same cfw you were on before hdd switch

you can do it the way they stated above, swap drives, 3.55 downgrader. toggle qa. ect.ect then come back to your cfw, thats the loooooooooooooooooooooong way.
sure it will work, BUT its not necessary
