Here's the steps on how to format it to FAT32:

That's normal, you should see the disc icon on your XMB.

no disk icon. multiman said something about bd rom when I first opened it but iy was so fast I didn't get to read it all.

Oh that was BD Rom Emulator. It's in the settings when you go on Multiman all the way at the bottom. Enable it.
