I found my old ps3 which still has the old 3.55 geohotz firmware. How can I update this to 4.80.1 D-REX if I can?

You will need to convert to DEX first, there are thousands of tutorials on YouTube for this, then once you're on DEX just install 4.80.1 D-REX.

Update to any 4.XX CFW of your choice, recommend a Rebug 4.70+. I recommend 4.75.3. Install REX version, then convert to DEX and done!

Cheers for the help! So I could go to 4.55 ITA DEX and then install the 4.80.1 D-REX rebug?

You could yes, but you can't get to ITA without being on DEX first.

Ah okay. Also, there's no 4.80 CFW is there? Because one of my playstations has a new hard drive by says I need to install a firmware of 4.80 or above. So wondered if there was any firmware that enables DEX that I could directly put onto it?

Quote me back. No way to directly put DEX on a console. It has to be converted to DEX first. Install the last firmware that was on the system, then from there go on.

Might sound stupid but how exactly do I do that? Like I said, been out of it for a while haha. The last firmware I had on it was 3.55 I think. Do you have a Skype?

I do, but unless it gets complicated we shouldn't need it. Do you remember how to put an update on a USB and all? Just reinstall whatever 3.55 you had last.
