If i remember clearly you need to make a VM1 Memory folder in your Memory Card Utility I did it so long ago when I added ps2 and PSX games onto my PS3.

Do a barrel roll!
You can play PS1/2 directly by inserting the disc directly. Open multiman and choose the disc.

If you want to play games via an external hard drive you can. Go to a website that offers PS1 and PS2 games for PC Emulators (They work for the PS3)

1. Make inside the Root Of the External Device a folder called "PSX"
2. Make a folder that it's called the same as the game. Example: The game name is "Twisted Metal" name the folder "Twisted Metal"
3. Insert the .bin and .cue and other files inside this folder you made in PSX.
4. Eject your External Device.
5. Plug it in your PS3 and go to multiMAN
6. Go to "Retro" and your game should be there.

If you could read you'd see that Dr. Luckeyy is already helping him "Einstein".
