Following on from our report which informed you about Sony’s possible plans to ban anyone using the new PS3 jailbreak solution, we now have some fresh details from community hacker Mathieulh, who says that the USB method may be available via alternative means.

As taken from PS3Hax, Mathieulh has posted a recent message on Twitter, in relation to PSJailbreak – a USB plug and play device which allows a new way to enable homebrew applications and gives users the ability to save games onto the hard drive.

However, Mathieulh thinks that Sony will fix the problem up with a firmware update, rendering the USB device useless for the time being. He states that the guys responsible for PSJailbreak definitely used Geohot’s PS3 jailbreak method on their USB device and reveals that the exact chip used for it, has already been identified.

As a result, he advises PS3 owners NOT to purchase the USB dongle, as a free and alternative method to allow homebrew content will be available in the nearer future. You can see the message on his Twitter account You must login or register to view this content.

yes most likely! im wondering exactly how thing works i would like to get one but i do not have $150 just to throw so i can take this thing apart! if any thing they would need to change the boot sequence. not sure if they can mod the bios via firmware update

They can't because apple had to change there bootrom in the hardware line

ps3 might be able to remove the method of saving files from a usb to the ps3, but still be able to transfer music/videos, you never know, i have money on it becoming patched though, i hate to say it, but its probably true

THANK you for posting this. FIrst ofg all I don't have that kind of money anyway! I thought it was uber dumb when I saw the price. Also I also found out about Sony figureing out that this exsists. And an easier way for these features? How so?...Will these so called "easier" ways be able to be done on a system that doesnt have Other OS anymore? And to be able to do these so called "easier" ways without spending a dime? Somehow I doubt it.

yes that is correct, it doesnt uses regular usb storage chip on it. but uses microcontroller to inject the code before the ps3 boot up, similar to the pandora battery.

I'm not taking chances getting banned again, I've had my two chances, and next it's forever.
