In simple terms, here's why a simple usb stick will not work.

Note I am not "flaming" or putting anyone down.
These are the simple facts how this works.
I have been reading and learning how the process works for a very long time and am very familiar with how PPC operates.

The problem with the usb stick is that it can only do one thing, be a usb stick.

The dongle has the ability to do more than just a usb "stick" - in fact it has very little memory.
Per say the dongle has a little brain that can be taught to do various things.
The dongle pretends to be something it is not and cause the ps3 to "glitch" and open a "hole" for code to be injected into.
From there, the code starts to work and unlock the ps3's safeguards.

This is the simplest terms how it works and why a simple usb stick will not work.
Sadly, a usb stick can not trigger the "glitch" and the "hole" to form.
The ps3's security is far to strong/dose not work in ways to load files off a usb stick on boot merely having them on such a device.

Some people have been waiting for free means of a "PSJailbreak" device.
I encourage the development of free means of doing this - however i am not holding my breath.
Most likley it will be done using a usb A to A cable on a computer, psp, iPhone, or Android device.
Basically this exploit needs something with a "brain"

I feel this will clear things up for most people.

I use quotes around "PSJailbreak" as when i say "PSJailbreak" i also am referring to the clone devices witch function the same way as well.
They all use the "smart" stick concept.

So to conclude things:
You must login or register to view this content.
A device like this will not work!

Its not nice to be the messenger, but someone has to do this or else people will start to waste $ and time.

I own a PSP and I doubt that it will work along with the other devices except a PC. When you plug in a PSP, it is just acts just like a USB drive.

I'd sure love it if the iPhone was the way to go but I could most certainly adapt to any other method(s).

Tried my iPod ps3 didn't see it but I'm sure devs could fix that

I wouldn't go so far to say people shouldn't hold their breath for a free version but we can definitely wait for a considerably lower priced product and method for the average joe that can't or does not want to dish out $100+. They are already saying how it is now possible to purchase particular pieces of hardware which are dirt cheap in comparison and being able to program them with the exploit/soft.

The hardware they name is Teensy++ board which supposedly already has the original clone code ported to it and their working on porting it to another similar piece of hardware, the AT90USBKEY both of which can be purchased for $30 and under...I've seen them listed much cheaper. Their USB based microcontrollers that are programed via USB and PC.

orite guys, ye it seems a normal USB is not going to work or never will. but there is hope, it seems you will have to buy a Teensy ++ or a AT90USBKEY to run the exploit. Smile

There's an app in Cydia that can make the iPhone into a usb stick.
There have been iPhone control things done with it in the past but its complicated.

Some people are thinking that the files will be made available and can be copied onto a usb storage device.
This will not work.
The device cost is actually very inexpensive, just some people lack the ability to solder.

lol just very exited about it
and i remember seeing someone on here said they used there ipod to copy hack files from there PC to PS3 and i was wondering as u had to merge files to deycrpt your HDD ( into a Music file) wether sony patched that or not
unless im not sure if PS3s have little chips to help run the ps3 properly as its only the OS on the HDD
so if there were chips in there maybe u could change the coding in that to run the ipod as a usb when it comes to usb
