RUMOR: Sony could (may) remotely disable all Jailbroken/hacked PS3's!

To date, Sony's response to the jailbreak has been limited to mandatory firmware updates and revoking PSN access to those that refuse to use official system software.

However, a report by Digital Foundry claims that Sony can take far more drastic measures. Even if you've never signed up for a PSN account, your console will communicate with Sony servers every time it boots up. That initial load process is used to upload error logs, download updates to the "What's New" module, and a list of recently-run applications, including any unauthorized backup manager software.

Sony has yet to ban any consoles for taking advantage of the jailbreak, but the terms and conditions of the PlayStation Network make it clear that Sony has the authority to carry them out. Thanks to the system's constant self-reporting feature, "the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish," rendering affected PS3 consoles unusable, online and off. But will Sony ever use such a drastic measure? And if so, how will the hacker scene retaliate?

Code:
fus01.ps3.update.playstation.net > Update Server (sys updates)
mercury.dl.playstation.net > What's new ads
nsx.np.dl.playstation.net > playstation store preview
nsx-e.np.dl.playstation.net > ads
(main file exchange connections)
us.np.stun.playstation.net > on boot initiates connection
ena.net.playstation.net > SSLv3 connection after above connection
dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net > secondary update attempt (could force updates)
auth.np.ac.playstation.net > SSLv3 authentication server
(destination servers)
service.playstation.net (has multiple IPs if only the ip address is blocked)
(Error Reporting)
creepo.ww.hl.playstation.net (uploads crash reports etc.)
Almost all connections cannot just be port blocked, the port will continue to increment until it connects, you have to block the entire domains. Also a big point is that ALL computers on your network need to have these blocked not just the PS3's MAC because if you are running a proxy for example to get patches, the computer you proxy to will just allow the connections right out to the open unless all local IPs are blocked from these sites as well.

Yeah but back then they didnt have a case and it was legal (it still is legal for now) so if GeoHot losses his case then we mite have a problem .

it isnt m3
come on. They won't disable ur ps3 or let it implode because of cfw.

You'll get banned from PSN, that's all they can and will do.

Ok people..

First off, Sony will NOT lose money if they ban all the accounts on systems running CFW. They are a corporation many BILLIONS of dollars wide. The Playstation system to them, is like a little pet project.

They will also not brick every system running CFW.. because THEY CAN'T. Not only would that be very difficult as we have yet to come across the technology to send and receive information without being connected to anything so much as a power outlet :shh:, but YOU bought the hardware, YOU own it. Nowhere does it say it is illegal to customize your firmware. SELLING it on the other hand, is illegal. If any of you actually read up on this type of thing, you would know that GeoHot has been served before, by apple, when he distibuted the first iPod/iPhone Jailbreaks. This primarily resulted in a law being passed by regulators deeming that jailbreaking has been added to a 'list of explicit exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s anti-circumvention provisions.' :bat:

Sony may however, ban your accounts.. :bye:.. and they have every right to do so. You agreed to Terms of Service, and then blatantly disregarded the clickable contract by using your CFW, on your system, to run their games, on their network. We all have disregarded the contract, and Sony can legally ban our accounts from PSN. Whether they will or not, is a different story. They would use up lots of money, time, and resources banning upwards of 300,000 accounts.

This should clear up any theories, speculation, and rumors circulating the forum.

How stupid, Disable our PS3's? if they do that they lose millions of ps3 customers which means they lose money, people leave ps3 unless like some nerds have a backup ps3..but obvs they won't do that..even if they do release 3.60 which wont be until the case is cleared with Geohot if they win or not..say if they win they will make 3.60 and people will most likely be able to upgrade from CFW to OFW..all these rumours people post are just bull...

Well you can. From what i've read... and if you want to be really precautious. You can always install FTP and Sega or whatever else on the JB FW and keep it offline. and then Just switch back to the OFW and play online. Supposibly these .pkg's still work even on OFW if you stay at the same firmware but just the OFW. Not exactly sure.
