As i said, Sony are clutching at straws, and are trying to make examples of them

Your idiocy amuses me. The whole console is owned by Sony. Modding the console is illegal.

'they accessed parts of hardware that THEY own'

So you're assuming if I made a jailbreak chip and inserted to the console and cracked it and messed with it I'll get away with it just because the chip belongs to me?

Derp, sense make some.

"get away with it" no... they'll ban you from PSN, thats as far as they can go.

have you even read what there trying to charge him with? breaking into protected computers? they OWN the hardware, they've brought it, just like me and you.

i know how to the court works. i was on trial for 14 months for something.

So if you hacked your own computer...would the manufacturers take you to trial? no.
like i said Sony is clutching at straws.

fail0verflow, and Geohotz, enabled homebrew code... not piracy.

to all the people who can not spell, it is "sued" not "sewed"

sewed - When something is repaired, stitching etc

sued - The result of being shafted for hacking the PS3

I really couldn't care less about your court experience. Moral of my talk, sense; make some. Read the ToS. Despite the fact that George is an adult.

It doesnt matter if Geohot is an adult. i never commented on that. YEAH there TOS, it means they can ban you from there private network.. EG - PSN... it does not mean you can be taken to court. for experimenting with hardware that you have purchased and own

short of it is... Sony is trying to sue them, for enabling piracy... they didnt do this. other people did this after, by messing with eboots, etc.

He's an adult. You know what that means right? The system of the court is different. He's an American citizen and getting 'sued' by SCEA. Usually this means, they'll ask for money. If he cannot pay that amount of money, he'll go to jail.

digiw0rks is right, they have not "technically" broke any laws. They did release keys, but this was neither for profit nor financial gain. Geohot did release a "firmware", but this clearly stated it was not "Official Sony firmware".

No one owns anything, I have a PC, I don't own it, i borrow it. Windows, i don't own it, it is owned by Microsoft, yet if I want to hack it and release exploits, then i would be technically breaking the law the same as the PS3 according to Sony.

Did you know modifying or re-chipping your car's ECU (control unit) is considered hacking? This could end up with you getting "sued" for modifying a vehicle manufacturers software. But it does not happen, because it is pointless.

The point of this is, Sony are doing this to keep developers happy. They know they have no way to fix this now, and a legal battle is the only power they have left.

This is the only time i've ever disagree'd with you Mossy. when you purchase hardware such as a PS3, Computer. you own that hardware. Software such as windows. is lincensed to you. thus, you own that copy.

If we run with your description of this, such simple acts, as overclocking a CPU, or changing the CL latency of a RAM chip, would be considered an offence of which a lawsuit could take place. as you are modifying against manfacturers spec.

Also the car thing. car dealerships, will reprogram ECU's for a price. so that can't be considered "hacking"
