No one owns anything, I have a PC, I don't own it, i borrow it. Windows, i don't own it, it is owned by Microsoft, yet if I want to hack it and release exploits, then i would be technically breaking the law the same as the PS3 according to Sony.

Did you know modifying or re-chipping your car's ECU (control unit) is considered hacking? This could end up with you getting "sued" for modifying a vehicle manufacturers software. But it does not happen, because it is pointless.

The point of this is, Sony are doing this to keep developers happy. They know they have no way to fix this now, and a legal battle is the only power they have left.

Frankly, it is illegal. If I owned Sony, I would of jailed him already. Logic + Common sense.

Not to mention, the ps3 is literally a joke now.

This is the only time i've ever disagree'd with you Mossy. when you purchase hardware such as a PS3, Computer. you own that hardware. Software such as windows. is lincensed to you. thus, you own that copy.

Agreed.

That is where you are wrong, nothing in life is ever owned by you. You only borrow stuff in life. You never own any hardware, even if you bought the chips and built it yourself, you don't own them chips.

A licence is what it say it is, a licence. Like Windows you are licensed to use this software, but it remains the property of Microsoft.

Let's not start a debate topic on this one.

Let's just say you're both right and move on.

If we run with your description of this, such simple acts, as overclocking a CPU, or changing the CL latency of a RAM chip, would be considered an offence of which a lawsuit could take place. as you are modifying against manfacturers spec.

Also the car thing. car dealerships, will reprogram ECU's for a price. so that can't be considered "hacking"

Well no, if the option is there to modify such parameters on the system, then it is perfectly legal.

Dealerships have the "correct" tools and licence to re-program ECU's, and are allowed to charge such service. But if i made a program, that programmed a ECU without permission from the manufacturer, then that is "illegal".

Apple couldn't take Geohot down so how do you think Sony will? It's exactly the same as Apple...released firmware....He'll walk a free man.

Sony will have to release ps4 but only when they work out new security measures...Enjoy your jailbroken ps3 for a while...
