As we all know Sony is suing geohot, so before people start flaming me for "old news" I request you read the thread as I have some good points on why Sony will likely lose the case.
1. Sony is using what other people have done illegally in the case against geohot. If that stands in court I guess we can sue a gun company because people are murdered by guns
2. Sony is suing people from around the world using U.S. law, many of the people they're suing are not from the U.S., and they they don't have jurisdiction overseas.
3. Many countries have laws allowing what geohot has done, in the U.S. we have the fair use sections of the DMCA which exempts people from infringement charges for parodies, research, educational purposes, reverse engineering and other situations (I would consider PS3 hacking research and reverse engineering)
4. Sony is saying that this will enable piracy, I can guarantee geohot will mention how he's against piracy and he will likely mention the benefits of homebrew
5. They argued him releasing the root key is illegal, the issue with that is the root key was secret, so they can't be protected because no one publicly knew about the root key geohot discovered it.
6. Geohot didn't circumvent the PS3 security system to obtain the root key, he said he obtained it through OtherOS on an unmodded 3.15 PS3
7. Sony charged him with attempted extortion for the job offer joke, honestly that is the dumbest attempt they made
Now let's sit back and watch Sony's court drama unfold. :carling:
