Who is GeoHotz?
GeoHotz A.K.A George Hotz made the 1st ever jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 1st Generations , Simply because he did not like the AT&T Plan and wanted T-MOBILE another GSM company . Since today T-MOBILE still has no rights to the Iphone and we are now at the fourth generation. As you see time has expanded and The iPhone/iPod Touch jailbreak can do much more and is better than what the App Store can offer , Also the Jailbreak contained features like video camera and multitasking years before Apple made this available to the public . Eventually the Jailbreak expanded from Mobile devices to other things Like the iPad and Even the PS3!

Which was GeoHotz primary intention to bring it back and make his own to run Home brew apps , However this lead to emulators ( Primarily in the Classic Nintendo series Example:Mario) and pirated games.

0:58-1:03: This is where Sony comes in . The Multi billion dollar company that owns the PS3. They want to stop GeoHotz to A. Stop the release of his Jailbreak / Prevent future releases B. To Destroy/Delete all his Jailbreak.ZIP files from the internet . Here is where Sony forgot to put on their thinking caps . Why would Sony want to delete all files from the internet? When most people have it saved on USB/their computers . Sony cant really change the fact that it is already in our possession.Instead of releasing a update (I am not saying i want them too update). ALSO SONY HAS NO INTEREST IN HOTZ GOING TO PRISON OVER THIS!

2:39 - 2:52 : This is where George Hotz Explains how he did not intended any piracy . This was one of his concerns making this , He wanted no PIRACY JUST HOMEBREW APPS!

4:27-4:53 : This is what i primarily want everyone to know . JAILBREAKING YOUR PS3 IS NOT ONLY ABOUT CALL OF DUTY MODDED LOBBYS , its a question of How much of your console do you own? Also if GeoHotz win many more things besides phones can be jailbroken.

4:58 - 5:10 : This is my favorite part of the video , where Hotz is asked about what else he wants to hack . His answer is great it is the PSP2 , a PSP2 that is BOTH A GAMING DEVICE AND A MOBILE PHONE. So then the DMCA Favors Hotz then? Has Sony giving this any consideration?

Short Summary of this thread
This case is more than jailbreaking its about how much you actually own your console. GeoHotz intentions were not piracy . This case is a big question HOW MUCH OF YOUR PS3 DO YOU OWN?

You know i spent a whole hour organizing this thread? Please have some consideration before you make a gay remark .

That part about the PSP2, it has not even been confirmed if there will be indeed a phone to it and also in reality i think Geo was more of just teasing at Sony then hinting his next action. It's something you can tell from his voice that he would say that because of what is happening right now, so pretty much he just wants to get Sony as Ticked off as Possible. He mocking them really, "haha Sony you see what happens when you remove feature from your console and try and sue me? Do it again and i will hack your future electronics" idk thats what i thought, from him laughing and such.

Also yes if he wins (i think he did) this case could stand for future cases about Jailbreaker consoles and other things other then phones. It will eventually be written in the doc or what ever that claims JB is legal and expand to gaming consoles and others.


Just like everyone to know that this does not mean it protects you from being banned if it becomes legal. We as consumers do not own PSN.

Informative thread, I like it even though I am against this whole pirating thing. I personally think Geohot is a liar when he says "i don't intent to pirate games and don't want people to pirate", what does he think people are gonna do with the firmware? make their own homebrew? please. I hope he goes to jail because hacking the iphone did make it better but I don't see how hacking the ps3 will make it better. It will lead to less developers, leading to crap games and us as a community regretting buying the ps3. I personally think he's an idiot because his brains and intellect could be used for much greater things but to each his own

my only question is this. If all the hackers intent was to get Linux back on to their console, then why did they bother enabling Homebrew and releasing their tools that can have full PS3 access? It really makes no sense to me, if they wanted Linux then they should have just released a CFW with Linux enabled again and thats it.


Personally i think Geo is just an attention whore. FailOverFlow were going to release the Linux hack, they released tools and Geo Exposed the Melta Keys and released them. It was never FailoverFlow intent to get those keys out, just to bring Linux back.

I Said the case was about SONY DOES NOT WANTING HIM TO JAILBREAK ANYTHING SONY -.- , that does include the psp. Their are many leaks it will most likely have phone technology . He did laugh but the PSP2 will be a big controversial if GEOHOTZ loses in court. He is still in court btw ,If he won NGU will be having a fiesta.

I Hate piracy as will in a sense you are stealing , But its the cheap way to go for many users . Although the fine is extremely high in the 100,000 range it usually gets settled in court for small 1,000 range . But as for your idea if GEOHUT intended piracy that's a good debate , maybe make it in the debate part of the forum?
