Post: So do you think Sony will ban CFW Users?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Been seeing alot of threads and reading but none really give a straight answer.. I personally don't see Sony banning users with CFW. They havn't yet why start now? And what would happen if they ban all those people then the court decides Jailbreaking your PS3 is legal. I know I would be raising hell.

I think Sony will patch it and leave us with the only option of reverting to the OFW.

have you guys seen g4 if geo wins the lawsuit the category for jailbreaking will not only fall under mobile devices such as the iPhone but as for consoles worldwide rendering sony with no other option but idly stand by and watch the scene as it grows in other words jailbreaking will become legal as it already is for mobile devices such as iphones
so no sony wont ban because it be against law if geohot wins his lawsuit from sony im sure he will win Smile but piracy is not cool because the console will lose rep and many publishers wont make games for console so piracy is in no way alright

One of the many requested thing on every hacking site is a backup manager. It won't affect them much, if anything a console ban may increase console sales, or as some have been doing buying another PS3 for non hacking purposes.

I don't see why they can't even if they loose. This court case is about hardware and what you should be able to do with it. If it goes with Geo rulling, Sony still has complete control over PSN and can ban if they wish to. It wouldn't be breaking court rules since even if they ban they can still run all the latest homebrews and ect. In fact to get online we have to agree with their rules. So regardless if Jailbreak becomes legal which would make it your right to do anything to your own property, the online portion (PSN) is still a privilege that can be taken away.

Customer service has been strange with their responses. We are getting confirmation of bans and no bans. I emailed them a few days back as well and now telling me that they might do bans but they are unsure at the moment.

We wouldn't be online (PSN), and they can't ban base off that due to the fact that not everyone updates (even legit user) right away.

There is nothing that says using homebrew is illegal, therefore, they cannot ban me.

If the court decides it's legal, they can't do shit.

When is the court ruling over?

So probably yes they will ban, we can't be sure of the answer because it is up to Sony. But with a new firmware they can detect who has it or who doesnt.

But doesn't our log get sent to them? It does save homebrew history if I'm correct.

Well lets dont start talkin about illegal and not illegal since it differs between countrys... like for Germany it was said that if u buy a Jail-Break-Device, you got to pay 5000€... i'm not sure about the CFW cause i dont know what will be the result of it... a ban by Sony wouldnt be as bad as to pay 5000€ or $, u know what i mean?

My question is, is it possible to use CFW offline and switch to OFW before going online by updating the system?

you couldnt be more wrong. the courtcase basically means that its illegal to distribute jailbreak devices. sony lost against geohot, making the device legal in the us. Although a major chipping/Mod supplier in Australia lost to sony. And the jailbreak is illegal in australia.
No matter what Sony can place bans, its their network, they were just trying to make "geohot" stop all the shit to make their "bricking" or "banning" useless

Homebrew is not illegal, but it most certainly is not an authorize software on Sony side even if it's sign.
Maybe i could be wrong idk

Now before anyone pulls this crap out of nowhere, Just because the file is Sign, does not give it the right Authorization on Sony side.

you are correct. No matter what, Jailbreak is only hardware. Geo case was more about ownership of the hardware, just like the Itouch jailbreak scenario. It's your Hardware you can do what ever you want with it, but what doesn't belong to you at all is Sony PSN. You don't own Netflix, you are only leasing to use it, same with pretty much all services, and it no difference with free services. They are run by Sony not by the Consumers.
