'System will now rebuild the database'

thankfully the PS3 just restarted and it appears to be fine

It happened to me, most random thing ever. I was like. KAY! It just restarted and everything was fine, then my ps3 froze for the 9 millionth time so I just reinstalled the OFW.

Rebuilding the database simply means rebuilding damaged files, erasing junk files, etc.
It's an operation that can be used to help the PS3 perform better.
I do this manually at least once a week, nothing to worry about.

Yeah I did, but I did it in the recovery menu for safe keeping.

In the event you don't know how to get there...

1: Turn PS3 off
2: Hold PS3 power button until it turns on, and keep holding until it turns off
3: Turn on PS3 again and keep holding until it beeps twice rapidly.

It'll boot in recovery mode and you can install the OFW again.

4: Install Geohot's Firmware.
