A friend of mine has recently installed a CUSTOM FIRMWARE onto my PS3 while he was at my house. I have read forum threads about this custom firmware, where people say my PSN account will be banned for using it.
If I update to OFFICIAL FIRMWARE 3.55 will my PSN account still be banned?

Hello Joseph,
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) does not recommend downloading any unauthorized software (i.e. games, movies, applications, etc.) for the PlayStation(R)3 computer entertainment system from the Internet. These software downloads have not been officially tested nor approved by SCEA and may cause damage to the PS3™system. The only approved PS3™system software updates can be found on PlayStation 3 system software update.
IMPORTANT: Any damage caused to the PS3™system due to unauthorized software / firmware downloads will VOID the Limited Sony Warranty for the PS3™system and may deem it to be unserviceable by our service department.
As far as your question regarding being banned from the PlayStation(R)Network for the use of custom firmware. I can not guarantee nor deny that you may or may not be banned from the PSN for the use of custom firmware. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Please let me know if there is anything further I can assist you with.
Regards,
Amanda F

Just letting you guys know..SCEA still hasn't come up with a decision about banning users. Don't worry too much yet.
