I hope this gets fixed. I was thinking of buying a new HD for my 20 gig PS3 (hey, I can still play PS2 games!) I found some laptop hard drives for cheap.

Freakin hackers! Was it really worth it? So now you are not only destroying our ability to play in cheat free online games, you are now also ruining our ability to upgrade our hard drives.

I think it would or are you saying it disables the ability to read a new drive other than the one in the system before update(as in it recognizes the serial number?) when inserted? Or are you saying that if a hdd isn't already formatted for the ps3 it won't work? Cause I have 3 drives I use one with backed up games, one with just homebrew, and one that I haven't done anything on... speaking of that does anyone know if the cfw installs on the system or on the hdd cause I am on kmeaw's cfw on the 2 drives with homebrew and the other one has nothing showing the install pkg folder or the app folder? Is it safe to update on that drive? Any answers to these would be appreciated...

Thanks for this post also man don't know if you'll be able to answer all my questions but seriously this info helped me.

The CFW only installs on the PS3. I swap hdds all the time with my 3.41 and 3.55 cfw and it works fine.

So I can safely update my non cfw hdd to 3.56 and leave my 3.55 one alone? And by works fine do you mean that when you put the 3.41 drive on your 3.55cfw it retains install pkg and app folders? Cause mine does not...

It sould be, and if I swap my 3.55 with my 3.41 it just makes me reinstall 3.41 fw and formats it.
