Sony has been very busy at work, since winning their Temporary Restraining Order against George Hotz. The Sony hitmen have been targeting the next tier of PS3 devs, by issuing DMCA takedown notices to a number of high profile devs. They've now targeted such people as graf_chokolo, kmeaw, and Kakaroto!

The first to go down was the professor at Carnegie Mellon, who had placed a mirror of geohot's original website, complete with keys. He decided to exercise some caution, and removed the site voluntarily.

1/27/2011 Update: Judge Illston has granted the TRO against George Hotz despite the venue issue still being contested by Hotz's attorney. And I'm out of town. Since CMU has a west coast campus in California and is therefore subject to her jurisdiction, I have disabled my mirror until I can get back to Pittsburgh and look more closely at the current state of things.

Developers all around the PS3 scene started receiving DMCA takedown notices, starting with kmeaw, famous for his custom firmware.

Graf_chokolo posted on XorLoser's blog regarding his DMCA takedown, but he doesn't seem too concerned.

Kakaroto recently tweeted about his DMCA takedown:

Mathieulh doesn't seem to concerned either:

As most people seem to be unaware of, DMCA holds no jurisdiction outside the US.

Should they ever send a DMCA notice here, I wont pull down whatever they ask me to unless they get a valid court order from a French Judge.

lol i know in Mexico if you go to a poor street and go to a mall you can buy pirated movies or videogames. 4 example 15 pirated xbox 360 games for $7 dollars and you can even get an official USB jailbreak thingy for $60 dollars. :tits:

I agree with DerekTrotter and Czk, Sony are only trying to protect the community I suppose by being so hard headed with these court orders and such. If nothing was done and everybody was lazy to do anything then you'd soon see newbs hacking every game online and ruining it. Btw Derek, Love Mossy's edit of your patch :p

The Land Of The Lost.....
now im not agreeing with any...

I was working on a CFW 3.56 and still am i got the same blank error everyone is i dont know what could be wrong we just switched the version about but the effect must be different idk.

Im saying sony is really hard on everyone but this is way to far out of hand sony needs to chill....
In the United Kingdom piracy is illegal yes but this is really screwed for everyone but im happy to say one thing...
We still have the legal right to hack our console (Sorry sony) If you have not updated to 3.56 you still have the legal right to jailbreak your playstation 3.
When CFW 3.56 comes in order the user should change the User agreement so that this could be a big plot out for 8 year old idiot's....

Bottom Line : Sony took this way to far and if you have firmware 3.55 you still have the legal right to jailbreak the sony ps3 cause you have not agreed to the TOS aka meaning you never agreed that legal action can be taken against you.

i suggest bypassing until 3.56 CFW is ready.....
