The bug, which is now fixed, involved user upgraded hard drives showing up as corrupted. Sony silently pushed out the new 3.56 PUP, attempting to cover up the fact that they dropped the ball on the original 3.56 release. It appears to be a common trend with Sony, that quality assurance goes out the window, anytime a new firmware update is urgently pushed out for release by them.

To retain jailbreaking and custom firmware it is highly recommended to NOT update to 3.56 Firmware

the v2 of 3.56 still doesn't work

when you put onto the memory stick it goes into decimal

Decimal = 1000KB=1MB (180MB

Whenever they say silent .. do they mean you gotta install it to connect to PSN or they just havn't said anything about it?

I'm stuck with a dead ps3 right now. The old 3.56 somehow gets saved on the ps3 itself, not just the HDD, so now I can't install ANY firmware on my new HDD because that old shit one is still there.

This would explain why it lets you update to the same firmware again, unless you can do that anyway.
