1- Take out the HDD of my ps3 ( 3.56 installed)
2- Put the 2.5'' HDD in my external HDD 2.5'' SATA enclosure case
3- Format the HDD-->the PS3's HDD now being a external HDD plugged to my computer
4- Put it back in my ps3 ( formated)

I am asking....

From my general knowledge of ps3s.... it should work.

Since my knowledge is limited, i am asking to those who know all this better than me.

well you wont know unless you try, if nobody else has tried this then nobody can answer you? and im quite sure if it's your "idea" then you would be hard pushed to get someone to try it for you if thats what your hinting at

Why ? since the HDD is formated.

My question is: How do the PS3 know that 3.56 is the actual firmware.
It has no way to know it unless:

-It connects on the internet to check ( which is not happening)

-It has previously saved on another physical chip ( that is not the HDD) inside the ps3 that 3.56 is the most up-to-date firmware

If the scenario number 2 is true, then it should be do-able to make a ''hack'' in order to erase/change information into that chip ( prob. flash memory) to make it believe that firmware X is the most up-to-date one.
