1- Take out the HDD of my ps3 ( 3.56 installed)
2- Put the 2.5'' HDD in my external HDD 2.5'' SATA enclosure case
3- Format the HDD-->the PS3's HDD now being a external HDD plugged to my computer
4- Put it back in my ps3 ( formated)
5- When the ps3 says it needs a firmware, update via USB stick to 3.55 OFW

My question is: How do the PS3 know that 3.56 is the actual firmware.
It has no way to know it unless:

-It connects on the internet to check ( which is not happening)

-It has previously saved on another physical chip ( that is not the HDD) inside the ps3 that 3.56 is the most up-to-date firmware

If the scenario number 2 is true, then it should be do-able to make a ''hack'' in order to erase/change information into that chip ( prob. flash memory) to make it believe that firmware X is the most up-to-date one.

Did not try yet because i have no 2.5'' HDD enclosure yet( cost around 5-15 bucks on ebay)

If downgrading was as easy as swapping the drive, don't you think more people would have downgraded? Swapping the drive WILL NOT work. the actual firmware version is coded in the ROM, and cannot be modified.

What happens when you upgrade to 3.56 on HDD X and then you put HDD Y on 3.55 in the ps3 ?

Ew... Xbox...
This dosen't work! I'm tired of people saying "OH! all you have to do is reformat your HDD and boom you downgraded!!!" YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE BY FORMATING! OMG why can't people understand this???
