Asbestos 1.2 Released - Network Install No Longer Necessary
The new release no longer requires a network setup to install/setup. Support for "Fat" PS3 models also arrived earlier today

Instructions:
    
How To:


1. install AsbestOS installer v1 or higher:
slim - asbestOS_v1.2_Slim.pkg (3.32 MB)
fat - asbestOS_v1.2_FAT.pkg (3.32 MB)

2. partition a USB disk to have at least one partition (FAT-formatted);

3. Download debian.rar (295.14 MB) unpack linux.img and put it into the root dir of usb disk;

4. run AsbestOS installer;

5. install lv2 patcher v9 or higher: lv2-v9.zip (111.43 KB);

6. attach an ethernet cable, connected to a network with a dhcp-server (just for the initial boot, it can be a SOHO router - just anything with DHCP); (NO LONGER NECESSARY IN ASBESTOS 1.2+)

7. run lv2 patcher and select "Linux";

8. as you see the fb console with penguins, you can unplug the ethernet cable; (NO LONGER NECESSARY IN ASBESTOS 1.2+)

9. login: ps3, password: ps3.

If you don't see anything, press Ctrl-Alt-F1, then Alt-F7.

LOL how can you even try it on 3.56 there is no install pkg so theres no way to install it, so how did you try it? lol

I read the ****ing tut, i understand all but not step 2

same here mate but getting no answers on this thread, iv asked 3 times so far, i think it needs to be a flash drive not sure though, i tryed a usm multi card reader with a sd card in it formatted to FAT but it dont work, my ps3 just reboots when i select linux on Lv2 pkg and i dont think asbestos works as it seems to be to quick, i just want to no if anyone has got it working on a fat ps3 and what kind of usb device they tryed, id love to run linux again i had it when i first got a ps3 untill it was removed by sony
