I'm taking the liberty of sticking this
ohh wow that's awesome, being able to fix ur PS3 if it YLOD, very nifty, especially when i need to fix mines whenever it YLOD, of course i rather it do that on me or anybody that owns a PS3 but thanks anyways for this awesome tut on fixing our PS3...
ohh instead of a heat gun, is it possible to use a hair dryer instead, basically the same concept and lot whole cheaper.

Heat guns heat up high than 850 degrees fahrenheit. As for hair dryer, go up to like 140 degrees fahrenheit, so I would say no to the hair dryer.
Why does it go up to 140 degrees fahrenheit? Your scalp can be burned by temperatures over 140F
I did this before 3 times with my 60 gig when it YLoD, you have to be careful though because after the 3rd time the graphic synthesizer get destroyed. I guess I was lucky Sony serviced mine.
