Only way you can change the firmwares behavior is by modifying the code on the NAND or in memory like the USB exploit (jailbreak dongles)...

If this really has a library binary on it that blocks some communication with sony, it might be very useful and save time spoofing SSL connections.

Though you CAN NOT do this by editing XML files..
