Im not sure if this is the right place for this so please move it if you need to!
Hey all, just added an extra usb port to my ps3 slim and want to share this tutorial of how I did it.
You will need the following:
A good solder gun.
A knife or blade
usb extension lead.
I wont bore anyone with how to open the ps3 slim.
This is the location of where I placed the usb port. Its a tight squeze so be sure to cut in the right place. Try it yourself for the best spot. You must login or register to view this content. You must login or register to view this content.
Using you knife/blade start cutting, once the hole for the usb is cut and your sure it fits you should have something like this (place the power supply for the PS3 back in its place to make sure it fits in): You must login or register to view this content.
OK now for the wiring, Its simple enough even for inexperienced people.
Get your usb extension and cut the male and off strip the wires back and your good to go.
here is the wire colours and what their for: You must login or register to view this content.
On your ps3, At the existing usb ports you will have these small solder points, this is where you will be soldering. You must login or register to view this content.
You should have the wires in this order: BLACK, GREEN, WHITE, RED. grab your solder gun and stick em on! You must login or register to view this content.
Once its done you should have something like this: You must login or register to view this content.
Yes the ps3 changed colours. I sprayed it white while I had it taken apart.
Any questions I will try to help no problem!!

I opened it to spray it so it was open anyway, I would have added more but this is my OFW ps3 so I only wanted it to use my camera without having the cable hanging out of the front, also unlike the fat ps3 all the components in the slim are tightly packed it so there is not much room inside.

Thats true but you still have the sh1t cables hanging out of the front of your ps3, You would think when sony were designing ps3 they would have just done it in the first place.
that ps3 in your avatar is sweet so is the controller. and yeh the 60gb has 4 ports so they backtrackd a little!
All you guys saying you wouldn't risk your ps3... You would have to be pretty stupid to make a mistake with this. As soon as my ps3 is out of warranty, I will do this
