So, I was bored today and decided to load up dev_blind and swap the selfs around to see if it'd crash with an official disk. It didn't, but it gave me a weird result that benefited me...
So, has anyone played Chrono Cross on their PS3? Well, that's what I tested. In the opening of the game, if you press start when the squaresoft logo animation is playing it'll bring up the main screen to press start. Normally on this screen you (or atleast I do) get 3 vertical (up and down) lines of corruption, almost like the video is stuck n blanks out (think of blocks when browsing through a video file in old school VLC). They flash n go away so they aren't that big of a deal, but it may help with unknown issues too. This game also randomly has issues in battle on ps3, but they are quite rare as I've only had a couple problems, and CC lagged in battlefields on psx to begin with, so i'm not sure if it does anything with this or not.. Most people I've seen reply to topics on CC say it works fine on their PS3 anyways.
Let me start by saying, I don't recommend you just start swapping files around in your dev_flash, it's unsafe so don't try it.
Well, what I did was backup the ps1emu folder from flash first obviously, then i opened the folder via ftp and deleted ps1_emu.self.
I made a copy of ps1_netemu.self and renamed it to ps1_emu.self. I then FTPd this into the the ps1emu folder and did a complete power cycle (shutdown console with controller, cycle power switch (i have 80gb launch fat).
I booted back up, launched my game, no corruption. Yay. So I swapped back to the original ps1_emu.self. Power cycled again, they came back. I continued power cycling til I tallied 30 starts with corruption in a row.
I then put the ps1_netemu.self renamed to ps1_emu.self back in place of the original again, and proceeded power cycling. They went away again. I tallied 30 again with no corruption.
So, has anyone else ever messed with these selfs at all? Any ideas wtf's going on? lol
and just so you know which screen does it, here's a SS.
Note: The SS for the corrupted image is not actually from ps3, they are just photoshopped for reference. They actually appear below the arrows above the "corrupted image". Ill try and youtube it tomorrow to show you what i mean..
PS3 tested on is running 3.55.1 Rebug

Corrupted
This may be blurry and stuff, but it's just a quick (although 12min long..) video on what doing this, causes to happen. I recommend skipping through it unless you wanna listen to my nasally annoying voice lol. also i realized after I finished making it, you couldn't tell wtf i was doing so, i made a short video which is horribly blurrier with close-ups of hex workshop and flashfxp.
Demonstration
Note: Ignore the PS2 Emu Files in the video like they arent there. it was just quicker to put the file im using in there.
That's pretty intresting where did you find the ps1_netemu.self file at? If they were both in dev_flash did you delete one and leave the other in then to switch you deleted the only one in there and placed the other file there?
I figured, netemu has 100Kb more code or instructions, or tweaks. Whatever, or whichever, it may be; It's a heavier file, if only by a little.
You can do this via usb in multiman which may be easier/quicker for some. but here's what i did.
Quick/Rough STEP by STEP Breakdown
1. Install and start dev_blind.
1a. answer yes twice.
2. Install and load OpenPS3FTP.
3. connect to ftp via whatever program you use.
4. Browse to dev_blind in FTP program.
5. backup ps1emu folder on pc
6. delete ps1_emu.self from ps3
7. copy your backup of ps1_netemu.self on pc, paste it somewhere easy to remember, and rename to ps1_emu.self
8. upload the renamed file to ps3 via ftp (dev_blind\ps1emu)

wouldnt that just add the NETEMU again and remove the Normal Emu?...
Geez, I swear people can't read for shit these days.

No he doesn't get black lines when he swaps the files round.
Please read the thread fully before commenting.
Thanks.
i Did thats why im saying it... and the only difrence here is graphical... let me explain a little bit
Netemu is used for games downloaded from the playstation store.
/dev_flash/ps1emu/ps1_netemu.sel (Can be found here)
Emu is used for games ran from actual playstation discs
/dev_flash/ps1emu/ps1_emu.self (Can be found here)
Well beside the usual drm decryption code that is most likely existing in the net version of the emulator, I figured what one of other difference might be. The netemu one has better upscaling than the disc version of the emu !
In other word your games will look better when you purchase them from the playstation store even if you run the very same version of the game from disc (thus sony made the upscaling worse on those on purpose)!
Now you also notice it in Wild arms... and thats why is a little bigger than the other..
A video has been added to the opening post that I made to show everyone in action. It's blurry as hell and u cant see what im doing in hex or flashfxp, but i just wanted a quick vid to show ppl so they dont ask stupid questions. Or atleast, try to.
