Post: PS3 downgrade (THEORY/QUESTION)

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If a retail ps3 checks for updates from this link:

You must login or register to view this content.

it will say that 3.61 is the latest firmware. Why can't we just edit that link (make it say that the latest firmware is 3.55 or 3.41) and tell the ps3 to update (downgrade) to that firmware?

Im sure its a whole lot more complicated than that though....

Quote so i can get notified.

It would be more complicated because how in the hell would we get our Playstations to go to that modified site? xD

If you get it to download another firmware it will go fine until it goes to the update screen. Then it will say the data is corrupt

Cool idea, but to me it sounds impossible. Not sure how it would even work :\.

No, and I'll tell you why. Your PS3 will check if your current version is equal to or higher than the version posted. So if you're running 3.55 and the file says 3.15 your PS3 will happily hum to itself about how lucky it is to have a firmware version ahead of the rest of the PS3's.

So why not make CFW that "spoofs" it is 3.62+ and make it download that, when in reality, it is a 3.55 rebug or w/e.

Sorry if this sounds pathetic, as I know it seems kinda obvious. I got a PS3 not long ago and I am currently working on getting out 3.61 so I can QA flag it. I'm sure if what I said was possible, we wouldn't have any issues downgrading.

i thought up this idea because i remember a proxy server spoofer that required you to change that link to you current firmware. So i figured we could use it downgrade but thanks for clarifying./
