I think I might've found an answer thats been right under our noses the whole time. Not sure if anyones done their homework on how the PC users got around the texture issue but it had a lot to do with ArchiveInvalidation.txt which of course they now have OBMM but even alot of these people seem to be switching over. So obviously the PC version has programs they can use to help figure this texture mess out. I just tried to do what it said in the .html read me that comes with the download but I can't find the archiveinvalidation.txt on oblivion for the ps3 but I might've missed it....it has a manual install and .exe...this got me looking into making .pkgs so I found a few things on that...now my question is...is it possible for someone to make a simple .pkg that eliminates this damn ArchiveInvalidation nonsense? Let's figure this out before Skyrim gets here hahaha

Here's some info on ArchiveInvalidation

And here's info on creating .pkgs for easy installation on the ps3...I believe some people are saying the programs in another language but theres a picture translation on comments page 3

If you have used previous version of ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! (versions lower then v1.1.0) uninstall it before installing the new version.

This little mod will allow you to totally eliminate the need of ArchiveInvalidation, no more messing around with ArchiveInvalidation.txt or BSA edits from Oblivion Mod Manager, your replacement textures will work without any fiddling around at all now!

This mod works by installing a new BSA and adding it to the start of the BSA loading list in the Oblivion.ini, Oblivion_default.ini and ConstructionSet.ini. Only the first loaded BSA that contains textures becomes the "main" texture BSA that ArchiveInvalidation is run on thus any other BSA's containing textures are unaffected by it.

Their are 2 versions to choose from
Installer Version: does everything automatically, no need to mess around with ini files.

Manual Version: this just contains the instructions and the plugin.

Important Notes
-This will work with all versions of Oblivion.
-Some mods like "Francesco's leveled creatures/items mod" register its BSA's in the Oblivion.ini, after installing this mod you will lose those BSA entries and will have to add them back in.

Make sure you click on the read me .html file that comes in the download. It will explain where to put the edits in the oblivion.ini file. I've managed to get smaller mods like consolecommand, nelsonmajikshop, noencumberance, and mapmarker to work (You must login or register to view this content.) and I managed to get one of the best oblivion expansion quest mods to work You must login or register to view this content., of course its very purple to say the very least without the new textures, on the ps3 version among a couple other decent sized mods like You must login or register to view this content.,You must login or register to view this content., You must login or register to view this content., managed to get You must login or register to view this content. mount to work, i managed to get the spell and pick which dragon to summon but when i'd call it the game freezes...and You must login or register to view this content. to work but everytime i'd try to actually mount it it just freezes again but it's progress I suppose. I've been readin up about load order and how that has a lot to do with mods working well with one another and all that...I've gotten about 8 to work so far all together....a few small ones and some nice big ones...just keep trying different load orders...here's some good info i've found so far

Anyways I posted this around a few threads so if there's doubles I'm sorry I just wanted to get the information out there and circulating as quick as I could. Hopefully we can make some progress with this info I've listed here. Good luck and God speed everyone!

No one said it was gonna be easy but it's well worth it. Hopefully everyone can chip in and add their own input and out of all that I'd like to think we can make some decent progress. The amount of mods available for Oblivion on PC is ridiculous, I'm just happy to get a tiny sliver of the mods to work but the more the merrier...The load order is ever so important too, obvioulsy the more mods you start piling on the harder it is to sort what would go where...what's a damn shame honestly is these asshole owners of the PC Oblivion version, who are capable of making these mods and these programs, have a few websites like tesnexus that they post all these mods on and god forbid you post questions on there about modding console versions they shut the threads down. I understand why they do it but grow a backbone for christ sakes, I bought and paid for my PS3 and my Oblivion game years ago, then CFWs came out and I decided to JB the PS3 and play Oblivion again as a back up and then I came accross the mods which made it all the more exciting but the fact these shmucks can't add any helpful insight whatsoever on the subject really pisses me off. It's my PS3, my game, all bought and paid for, and my choice to JB it and I can do whatever I want to the games and equipment I purchased. I care less about a User Agreement, they can go shove off, i'm the end user, the end user should have the right to do what he wishes with his or her own property. I'll paint my ps3 pink if i want to, i'll open it up and piss in it if i pleased, and quite frankly no one else is gonna have a say in the matter, same thing applies to me and if I want to change some files in one of my own copies of a game I officially own. So all in all If these a-holes don't want to post any info on their own site because of the strict forum rules that's fine but they should grow a nutsack and go make a post on another site who isn't worried about Sony or Bethesda and how they feel on the matter and help out those who have the PS3 or 360 versions to get some .pkg install variations of some of these programs they already have available for the PC version. we need a mod manager or atleast something that's gonna control the archiveinvalidation.txt. It's great Bethesda and Sony don't want us to mod the game on consoles but honestly I'm not hearing it, it's going in one ear and out the other, I paid 60 bucks for this game, each and everyone of us pay around 50-60 dollars a game and we promote more games and more consoles and piss out more and more money, we helped make the pockets of these money hungry bastards even heavier, it's supply and demand, they want the money we have, we're in a better position then they are, they need us more then we need them therefore I'll continue to mod away. remember that and stick up for yourselves. that's exactly what geohotz is doin and he's one man. stand behind him.

Did you try the ArchiveInvalidate file and then test it on Oblivion with some known new textures that would normally be showing up as a pink or purple because of the texture issue?

I don't remember where I read it, but I read something that said that Pete Hines(?) said that you just need a simple converter to get PC mods running on consoles.
If this is true, I believe they are referring to the texture files being converted to DDX instead of DDS.
Unfortunately, there is no converter that I'm aware of, nor is there a lot of information on the DDX file type.

Some people have said that they(DDX files) are combinations of two of the same(?) DDS files.
It's also been noted that the files use the opposite Endian language(?) that the PC version uses.
I think mesh files use the same format as PC though.

With this in mind, it could be possible to create a converter that reverses the language and copies/fuses the texture files.
Sadly, I'm not sure who would be able to create such a program, or if it would even work, and if it was this easy, why no one has created this already.

As for OBSE(Oblivion Script Extender), FOSE(Fallout Script Extender), and NVSE(New Vegas Script Extender) reliant mods, I believe it would be simple to have it made for consoles seeing as they give source code I believe.

Sorry if none of these theories are true, as they are theories.
