The firmware is not on the ps3 hdd it is on the nand and if you stick a lower firmware hdd into a ps3 it will just ask you to update to use it.

well. i want to see if any one has ever tryed this path before. and if nuclear101 is right about the "nand" i will work on wiping that clean
