i just looked up with the NAND is... its a small flash drive like chip in your ps3, and it can be... but in fact you do not want to wipe it. the FW like other important files are on there... but there is an easy fix for this. 1... take apart your ps3. mod the chip/ plug into computer. ( INFECTUS is one program that can help you change files on an NAND. made for phones when it first came out... (it works like a computer virus, by infecting that file or overwrighting it with another. if you have a friends ps3 running 3.55 or less you could use his file to over wright the newer one. (.ban is the file type)

What I find funny is how anyone can think with all the brilliant minds working on this that they're the first one to think up something that could work. Seriously, everyone who has no idea about how firmware works has thought "Maybe I just format my hard drive" and everyone with a bit of knowledge or the ability to read never even bothered because it's totally unrelated.
