I am attempting at installing Kmeaw and the offical 3.55 firmware via USB but I keep getting errors when installing. Can I make a jump from 3.00 to 3.55 or do I need to gradually update?

Basically my PS3 is blank a the moment. Boots asking for 3.00 firmware or higher on a storage media. Whether the 120 gig is in or the 40 gig I get the same error when trying to install 3.00, 3.30, 3.41 or 3.55 firmware. I have booted into recovery and even tried it from there. I am lost at the moment. Also the 40 gig harddrive worked prior to reformatting it except it would not accept the 3.55 update. Any more info would be amazing at this point....

Whats my next step here? When placing my harddrive in a friends it asks for firmware 3.61 when placing his in mine it asks for firmware 3.0? I cannot reformat his harddrive as he doesnt want me breaking his.
