(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey if anyone has figured out how to dual boot with the e3 flasher and 2 HDDs, could they please let me know how? Appreciate it, Thanks!

ok so im not real sure if this would work but here it is:

-Hdd on 3.55CFW
-Hdd on 4.00OFW
-Nor dump of both firmwares

so if i have all these things, in theory couldnt i just restore the 4.00 dump and pop in the 4.00 hdd to boot into OFW and then restore the 3.55 dump and pop in the 3.55 hdd when i want cfw?

Bc i would rather not have to go through the whole update process to get back to 4.00fw and definitely dont wont to go through the whole downgrade process again.

could this possibly be the way that E3 said they would tell us about when talking bout half dualboot? ( Btw, E3 still hasnt said anything else bout it other than they would be releasing the instruction for it in a few days and that was a month or so ago. No surprise there!)

But yea if any one has info on whether or not the above method would work, Please let me kno. Thanks!

kinda, except you must use flash fun method. which means soldering the SPE and tristate(something like that)

Why would i have to use flash fun mode? According to their manual u must be in ps3 mode to restore a backup.

Your firmware is not stored on your HDD so there is no way that would work.

And the guy talking about SPEs isn't right as the SPEs are the individual cores on the cell processor....

Actually part of it is stored on the HDD. and that is also the point of using the backup bios. There is actually a small tutorial on the ps3devwiki, go learn something.

He wasnt talking bout that kind of SPE, he was talking bout the SPE on the Flashers Clip cable

Also he is right about the SPE's except as far as i know that is only if you brick, because if you solder the SPE to the tristate that bypasses the ps3's boot sequence so you can actually restore from a back up

If the entire firmware is not stored on the HDDs it still wouldn't work by just swapping HDDs. Plus if you swap an HDD with one not on a firmware that your PS3 is on you will have to reinstall a pup which means the firmware is verified on the console, for obvious reasons. And there is no "other kind of SPE" on the PS3 it always refers to parts of the cell processor.

THATS THE POINT OF THE BACKED UP BIOS! and im pretty sure it works since its on the ps3devwiki and noone ever said that the spe was on the ps3 itself, we are talking about the spe on the flasher's ribbon cable

That tut is probably old as you are referring to the E3 flasher limited I presume? The old E3 Flasher could dual boot while this one cannot. You probably saw something about the old one which did require soldering to use at all while the new one is solderless and I think they haven't found a solderless dual boot method yet.

Hey yea thats only for if you brick it , that way you can bypass startup and restore. you can still use the recovery mode by setting all your switches downward and putting your tf card with the backed up bios in the flasher.

Also you cant downgrade with an external harddrive, you actually have to use a thumb drive lol

Actually no, I am talking about the E3 nor flasher that just released after the limited version. no the tutorial is not old bc, it is for 4.00 and 3.55. and yes once again they have found a dualboot method, they just call it half-dualboot as they anounced, they havent explained the method yet, but that doesnt mean someone else hasnt figured it out.

See dual boot doesnt require more than one hard drive. but the half-dual boot method they said, requires 2 hdds and has a few more steps than the regular dual boot but it still beats upgrading and downgrading everytime you want to change firmwares.
