For those of you with hardware flashers and valid dumps, you can be at ease of mind while you attempt to install this DEX firmware on your CEX console. If you do not have both the hardware flasher and the valid dump, then it is suggested that you do not attempt CEX to DEX with your console, as it could end up in a brick, or possibly stuck on a firmware that you can not get out of.

Ive got an old PS3 stuck in a firmware loop gathering dust, i was 50/50 about getting an E3 Flasher to recover it but owning 4 PS3s it wasnt a big deal. After reading this post though, i think i definately will now. Thanks for the heads up Aidan.

lol nice, I wish I had a PS3 to mess around on. I only have my launch PS3 with the latest OFW and an self-upgraded 320GB HD. Strangely enough I have 3 X360s and much prefer the PS3 (to be fair though I only bought one new, which I haven't modded - one I got for 30$ because the user thought it was fried, and it just needed a new DVD-ROM drive [flashed of course =p] and the third is a jtagged Halo 3 special edition that I got for cheap as well because the guy who tried to jtagged it used about a quart of solder and messed up a lot of connections; works now though)! Maybe I will find someone that has a seemingly busted PS3 or PS3 Slim with 3.55 or lower firmware and try and fix it up. If anyone has any ideas on how to obtain such a machine feel free to PM me, although I cannot PM you back until I hit 15 posts and I am not spamming (also sorry if this got OT).

BTW, don't the real debug units have a bit of extra memory so developers can debug on live code, or can you turn a retail unit into a real dev unit (I wonder if any SDKs were ever leaked; I remember leaked SDKs for the Xbox 1 and X360 coming out fairly often, although that may have stopped).

Edit: It looks like I might be confusing Debug Units for TOOL units, although I honestly don't know the difference. lol I also had never heard of Shop/SEX units before, but I assume these are display models at game stores?
