Post: Permanent HDD decryption: graf_chokolo's ps3dm-utils

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Back in CFW boom of 2011 after fail0verflow and GeoHot, graf_chokolo was implementing his linux HV kernel and PS3 Utilities. Due to the legal complications, graf released his Hypervisor Bible, and ended his reverse engineering. The tools were a W.I.P. thing on gitbrew, and never polished.

"ps3dm_sm set_del_def_encdec_key" was implemented to PERMANENTLY disable hdd/vflash encryption, and was successful but needed to have a patched syscall 9.

^This comes in handy presently, because it essentially allows the HDD to be viewed like USB Flash memory. If the dev's attempt patch process 9 and disable encryption, HDD swap can be performed and not need to be reformatted. This could even be seen in the next 4.xx Modified pup, but this would need to be brought back to the dev's attention.

tl;dr HDD will be swappable and viewable via SATA as unencrypted storage

sadly no :/ because the firmware is not stored on the hardrive,it is stored on the NAND or the NOR (i forget which 1) which can only be accessed by things such as the E3 flasher.theres no need for people to groan you though, when derricktrotter made a thread saying that decrypting the HDD is possible everyone was curious if that ment you could just switch firmwares trough the HDD

---------- Post added at 06:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:17 AM ----------

if someone finds out how to do this it would be great since you have to be on 3.55 to install a CFW.there might be close to no need for a CFW

Just a heads up but this was posted a while ago You must login or register to view this content.
Just letting you know.
But if you were to create a video tutorial or a n00b proof tutorial of exactly how to do this you would be swimming in appreciation form leechers and n00bs.
I was tempted to create one but cba

That thread is just wrong. Method discussed is not possible. In that thread is says to plug you hdd into your computer and patch encryption with linux. You can't do that, you must execute the command from on the PS3 itself (OtherOS, Linux)... How could you possibly modify syscalls via Hdd? You can't!

This will in no way give you any CFW or Downgrade your Ps3....

The reason is that alot of the ps3 system core files are stored in the console itself .. like its flash for example ...

DrackThat will only give the ability to VIEW the file system it will no way decrypt the loaders keys or allow 3rd party code to be run....

This is not meant to allow CFW or downgrade. Or flashing anything for that matter... That is totally unrelated to the hdd. One would have to be challenged mentally to think that was what this thread is about.
