There is a permanent fix for game freezing! Fix found by audi787b
1. Copy game to HDD.
2. Install ControlConsole API 2.00 and connect.
3. Make sure there is NOTHING in your USB ports.
4. Run the game.
5. Wait at least 2 minutes before plugging in anything in the USB ports.
6. Enjoy RTEing.
Apparently having things plugged in to the USB port causes the plugin to crash and freeze the console.
Hey Guys!
Yesterday (11/11/13) was a big breakthrough in modding for CEX users! Thanks to the user FMT Enstone, us CEX users do not need to switch to DEX and risk a brick to RTE. This was a follow up to deank's PRX loader and plugin which could allow FTP transfer at anytime on your console, even while playing a game!

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to RTE Ghosts on 1.05 (change your name and turn UAV on).
Requirements:
Computer
CFW PS3 (4.21,4.30,4.41,4.46,4.50 CEX or DEX)
USB
Console Control Manager Application + CCAPI 2.00 PKG
Wireless or Wired connection (works on both)
*links will be at the bottom!
Tutorial:
Step 1:
Download the CcApi_2.00_package.rar file from mediafire. Open up CcApi_2.00_package.rar the Put the XX0001-ENSTONEXX_00-00000000000CCAPIv2.00.pkg on the root of your usb.
Step 2:
Install the pkg on your ps3 and run it. Click "OK" then click yes if it asks you if you want to install it. The PKG will restart your console. This is normal.
Step 3:
When your console has restarted, it will say Control Console 2.00 Made by Enstone in the top right corner where a notification usually displays. Then just sign in, and go to system settings --> system information. Remember your IP or write it down, you will need it later. Start up Ghosts Multiplayer and go to an empty lobby.
Step 4:
On your PC startup ControlConsole.exe and it should look like this: You must login or register to view this content.
Step 5:
In the IP address box You must login or register to view this content. type in the IP of your console. It will be like 192.168.X.X or something along the lines of that. Make sure to include the periods! Click connect when you have typed in the IP address. It will say "Success!" if it was able to connect to your console, if not then you need to make sure your laptop/computer and ps3 are connected to the same network, that you have internet access on both, and that you typed in the IP correctly.
Step 6:
Experiment with the cool buttons on the right side :p. After you're done with that, click on retrieve list and find your game process You must login or register to view this content. (NOT vsh.self), then type in 0x0172a5b8 into the offset box You must login or register to view this content.. Click on the 'size box' arrow You must login or register to view this content. and choose "string" You must login or register to view this content.. Then type in what you want to be named into the 'input' box, this is what your value is going to be: You must login or register to view this content. (I have set my input to YouViolateMe. So after all that it should end up like this: You must login or register to view this content.. If yours' looks like mine then click Poke and watch the magic happen!
Step 7:
We will now set UAV on! Before doing anything start up a public or private match and wait until it loads, (put a few bots on to test). In the offset box put in 0x0013975DYou must login or register to view this content., choose byte in the size box You must login or register to view this content., and for the input type in 02 to turn UAV on or 03 to turn UAV offYou must login or register to view this content..
Note:
There you go! If you want to uninstall Control Console API, just run the pkg, click OK, then click yes if you want to uninstall. Sometimes if you input a wrong offset and try and change it, your PS3 will freeze. So make sure you know what offset you're typing in. Worst case scenario, you will probably need to reinstall your CFW.
A DLL has been released if you would like to make your own RTM tool for CCAPI :happyguy:

*Make sure there are no spaces in the input, except when you are inputting a string

Some FAQ:
Q: When I click poke, it comes up with "cannot set memory", what am I doing wrong?
A: Make sure that in your processes and kernels box is selected to your game EBOOT.bin or .self file, that you are connected to your PS3, and that you are in the Ghosts MP lobby/or in the game.
Q: How do I know what to put for the input?
A: Take a look at "How the sizes work"
Q: Are current RTM tools compatible with CCAPI?
A: Yes, try Tustin's Public Cheater Tool or Mr.Azoz's Tool.
So I am able to see the eboot.bin as soon as it loads the game ands i click on it, but when i get to the part to edit it and I am on multiplayer the error says can not edit blah and when i try to retrieve list it only gives default_mp and .vsh
Default_MP is correct but the offsets change in each title update we are on 1.04 the older 1.03 offsets are invalid you have to use the 1.04 offets.
The following user thanked recidivism123 for this useful post:
Unable to download updates at certain times, it freezes when trying to update or kicks you to recovery menu.
PS3 kicks you back to recovery menu when you launch a game.
When your PS3 freezes launching a game, your save game can become corrupt.
When your savegame is corrupt, your PS3 decides to restore file system.
My PS3 settings information have been corrupt, and it deleted all my account information.

Happy modding!
When installing the app onto the PS3 for the first time, should I keep my flash drive plugged in the PS3 with the plugins folder or it isn't necessary? What's the purpose of the plugins folder? Thanks for the tut

You don't need the plugins folder. The plugin that came with the .rar is a FTP plugin. It allows FTP anytime, without launching homebrew.
