Hi guys
Today I'm going to show you how to convert .pkg files so you can place them on your external hdd .This will be a step by step guide. First of all i don't know if this is already posted, if so i apologize. This way worked for my ps3, Tested on 4.50 ITA DEX
I've also done some research about how to put psn games onyour hdd but i could not find anything goods.
What are the possibilities :
- Extract .pkg files so you can play them from your ext. hdd
- Make games work on a firmware lower then required.
Required tools
-Param SFO Editor
-PkgView
-CFW Eboot & PKG Resigner
The tools i used in this tutorial are uploaded in a .rar file wich can be downloaded You must login or register to view this content.. I've uploaded the virus scan below. No one is forcing you to download the files, You could also search the files by yourself.
Most likely you already know some games have a limited minimum firmware, take as example South Park: The Stick Of Truth. This game requires atleast Firmware 4.53, I'm on 4.50 ITA so i should not be able to play the game. When i start up the game it tells me to update to 4.53 in order to play it. In this guide i will teach you how to make it work using the tools you've downloaded. Like i already said this is a step by step tutorial.
Step 1. Files
We need to put the game on a location easy to remember so vreate a new folder and put your .pkg game in there.
You must login or register to view this content.
Step 2. Setup
Now we need to extract the downloaded .rar files inside your new created folder
You must login or register to view this content.
Step 3. Extracting the .pkg file
We now need to extract the .pkg so we can edit the minimum FM version.
Open the PkgView.exe located in [Yourcreatedfolder]\PkgView_1.3\PkgView.exe
Once the tool is opened click File->Open... and open up your .pkg game.
Now we need to extract the .pkg file in our directory, wich can be done by pressing your right mouse in the left column and selecting Extract to source folder
You must login or register to view this content.
Step 4. Editing the Minimum FM version
Now a new folder has been added to your directory, this is your extracted .pkg file.
We want to change the minimum FM so let's do this.
Open the PARM folder, inside you will see the PARAM SFO Editor open it up. Click the folder icon this will popup a new dialog. Go to the folder wich contains the extracted files from your .pkg file and open up the PARAM.SFO
IMPORTANT:
Change the Category from HG Harddrive Game to DG Disc Game (blueray)
Change the PS3 System to your FM version or lower.
You must login or register to view this content.
Save the file, now the minumum version has been edited to what you filled in the PS3 System
Step 5. Resign Eboot
Now we want to create our own modified EBOOT. Copy the EBOOT.BIN from your extracted folder and place it in the same directory as CFW Eboot & PKG Resigner, then run the program as administrator. You can choose different options.
First typ "1" and press enter
You can now choose your CFW version, we are going to use CEX, so typ "1" again and press enter
We can now choose our CFW version, let's choose 4.30. typ "6" and press enter again.
Choose DISC EBOOT, by typing "2" and pressing enter
Then type "y" and your custom eboot will be created.
Place the created EBOOT in the USRDIR folder and put the extracted game onto your external hdd.
Now you have it, connect your external hdd and you can now play the extracted .pkg file. You can also use this method to only change the minimum FM version.
