This guide is for people on 3.55 CFW

This will allow to keep your trophies if you want to upgrade your HDD or get another PS3 (on 3.55)

Tools needed: You must login or register to view this content.

I used the Backup Data Utility in the xmb to backup my game saves and account.
It doesn't backup & restore trophies, however.
Follow these steps to backup and restore your trophies without updating to 3.60 and signing in to PSN.

The instructions below are for people with 2 PS3's (on 3.55 CFW)

You must already have your account & gamesaves restored on your other PS3 using the Backup Data Utility.

  • Start Blackbox v1.2, then start your PC's ftp server.
  • Go to /dev_hdd0/home/your user id/
  • Copy the trophy folder inside to your PC
  • Turn off your PS3, then turn on & start Blackbox on your OTHER PS3 and the ftp server on your PC.
  • Go to /dev_hdd0/home/your user id/ again and overwrite the trophy folder with the one you backed up to your PC
  • Turn off the ps3. Turn it back on, but instead of booting it normally, go to the Recovery Menu.
  • Select Rebuild Database, then the ps3 will reboot afterwards.
  • Check out your Trophy Collection and all of your trophies will be there!

The instructions below are for people upgrading to a bigger HDD

You need to have your account & gamesaves backed up to an External HDD using the Backup Data Utility.

  • Start Blackbox v1.2, then start your PC's ftp server.
  • Go to /dev_hdd0/home/your user id/
  • Copy the trophy folder to your PC
  • Turn off your PS3, and hit the switch in the back (fat ps3's only) then unplug all the cables.
  • Take out your current HDD and put in the NEW HDD you want to use and reformat it when prompted.
  • When finished, go to the Backup Data Utility, and then restore your backup data.
  • After it finishes and reboots, install Blackbox v1.2 and start it, and the pc's ftp server.
  • Go to /dev_hdd0/home/your user id/ and overwrite the trophy folder with the one you backed up to your PC
  • Turn off the ps3. Turn it back on, but instead of booting it normally, go to the Recovery Menu.
  • Select Rebuild Database, then the ps3 will reboot again.
  • Check out your Trophy Collection and all of your trophies will be there!

if you are trying to do this thing you need your account in both ps3. for the trophies to work...

Why are you trolling my thread?

The majority of people with multiple PS3's have 1 on 3.55 and one on 3.60.
This tutorial is NOT for those people.
I only wrote this tutorial because I was replacing my old 3.55 PS3 with a "new" 3.55 PS3.
Not that many people will ever be in that situation, but I was. There was no way to access PSN and keep my trophies, even if I backed up my entire ps3.
But then I found a way, and thought I'd share it with people here on ngu.
I understand that this is only useful to a very few amount of people, and that's why there aren't many thanks (although I have gotten +rep)

And last time I checked, you have been a member of ngu way longer than I have but I have more rep/thanks than you do. So think before you post next time.

Yeah well if you read my post, then you know im on the same
Situation...... I replaced my old Ps3 for a new one.
I did what your tut told me to do.
I see the trophys in my list, but it errors on KMEAW AND REBUG.
SO I CAN SAY ITS POINTLESS.
And so what im longer on nextgen, and you got more thnx then me!!!
That doesnt mean that your tut 100% works lol.
If you got proof it works 100% with your tut and playing games without the error, THEN i will think what i post next time.
Make a YouTube video or something with a backup trophy list with
Death space 1 or monopoly. Do it like your tut. Put it on a new ps3 and play the game and see what you get. Errorrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol.

You wouldn't be able to access the files/structure folders because the hdd data is encrypted to the ps3 it was formatted on.

It sucks, but there's no way to get encrypted data on/off a ps3 hdd that way.

Haxor!
Hey thanks for posting this Magnius.

I'm about to buy a new retail PS3 Slim (so I can get it below 3.55) and wanted to transfer all my trophies from my old Phat (with CFW) to the Slim one so I could update it to 3.60 OFW (Slim) and sync them.

Is this possible?

Reason I ask is because, I remember on my Phat PS3 I was messing around and ended up deleting the trophy list and rebuilding the database to remove all the trophies I had acquired. Then I pasted my OLD backup prior to removing it, and rebuild the database again to see if it worked. It did. All my trophies showed up and everything.

Only problem was that when trying to play ANY game that I had showing on the trophy list it would say "Failed to register game.. blah blah blah" and kicked me out.

On your OFW PS3 were you able to sync your trophies?

What's the point of having trophies on a 3.55 ps3 again?
