Basically, I am on 3.66 OFW right now, and I want to JB obviously. My friend gave me a few link to sites saying that I can buy a new hard drive that is compatible with the PS3, and just install 3.55 OFW on it from the recovery menu. Then I can just JB the old way. Will this work? I have seen many people saying it does, and it seems like it would. Any help would be appreciated.

Not likely, because firmware is not stored on the ps3's HDD
If it was, we would likely be on CFW 3.66 now

Changing HDD will not change the ps3's firmware.
