(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The issue of potential fees for PSN has reared its head once more, filling many of us with a mild sense of dread. We don't like spending money, after all. The mention came about as a part of an interview with Masayuki Chatani, SCE's executive VP and CTO, who said the ''sell and forget'' model wasn't as good for profitability and other ''schemes like monthly fees or per-item charges'' could be introduced. They might not, though.

I was told that they didn't have intentions to charge for people to get online the PSN (just sitting at XMB) or to play any online games.

I was told, however, they wanted to charge for premium services such as, better matchmaking for games (most likely only games they support like KZ, KZ2, SOCOM, Resistance, etc.), better themes (they are doing this now dynamic themes), avatars (also being done now), video chat, cross-game chat, and a few other things.

If they could bundle that all up together in one nice little package for under 50 USD a month, then I'll stay and buy it, because Microsoft charges 50 USD for a year of Gold, which essentially has the same things.
