With the recent announcment made by Geohot could this be Sonys way of solving his hack and stopping them loosing loads of money from game piracy and other problems it would cause.

yup thats exactly it..sony wanted to piss of alot of customers and make them buy the slims...i for one will say **** it and take this phatty to the backyard and shoot the it and start watching tv instead of ps3

you know ive thought about that and its a bit crazy but it makes sense. but they would have to replace 15+ million consoles which would cause them to lose around $2million

I bet it would be cheaper to replace all the phats than the amount they would loose in sales of games over a long period of game piracy.

If this were the case, I'd certainly buy a 360 instead. This would be totally out of line.

They just stated in a artical that there is over 33million register users, not including people who never play on line so that could be another 5million not registered. So lets take 33millon x's 299.99 a uint thats 986,700,000 million they made. if they need to recall half of them OMG were are they gonna get the money and store them all... lol UPS will being dropping PS3's off for days.

I'm almost fed up with all these errors with ps3 and concerns about some douchebag hacking it. Now people are talking about Sony did this on purpose? I've never played 360 but I'm considering switching over from Sony and all it's mishaps..
