Legendary games developer and the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series Hideo Kojima has said that in time the games industry will move away from consoles and turn instead to cloud-like computing technology.
“In the near future, we'll have games that don't depend on any platform,” Kojima told attendees at a Tokyo-based MGS event, according to Reuters.
“Gamers should be able to take the experience with them in their living rooms, on the go, when they travel – wherever they are and whenever they want to play. It should be the same software and the same experience.”
Adding a bit of drama to proceedings, the comments were made on a stage shared with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan’s president Hiroshi Kawano. His reaction?

“It's a bold prediction. We hope he continues to develop for platforms, but we deeply respect his sense of taking on a challenge.”
The comments echo those made by Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada who said late last year that “in ten years’ time a lot of what we call ‘console games’ won’t exist”.

Why did you post this in PlayStation 3 Upcoming Titles? Anyway, back to the topic, I believe we will have 2 more generations of console gaming before we start gaming in virtual worlds.

I don't think it can get any better than it already is, especially with the PS3 because of the online update feature. I only think that the design could possibly change and nothing else. I don't think they will invent virtual gaming.

I think that eventually consoles will die out, not any time soon though.

I'm thinking gaming is certainly moving in that direction, but keep in mind that consoles themselves are a deviation from computers. Personally, I'd have consoles wiped out along with cloud computing to be replaced with PC gaming, but the casual market won't allow for this.

Haxor!
doubt this will ever happen really, the consoles seem to be a preferred way of gaming, virtual stuff will never do it for me
