can i just go to like bestbuy and buy a regular harddrive and install it or dose it have to be a certain type
I recently installed Samsung SPINPOINT HM500 "2.5 SATA and FAT32" for compatability. Easy install, no problems transferring old data from original 40 gb hd. I got mine from Amazon.
Does that seriously work?? i thought you had to either keep the hardrive you have or buy a new one from Sony. But Samsung???
The brand does not matter samsung, western digital, seagate whatever, the only two things that matter are the size (2.5" laptop) and the compatibility (SATA). Why do you think sony made it so easy to swap out? Pop open a cover, unscrew 1 screw and pop it out. Sony made it this way so ppl could upgrade them to whatever compatible hdd they want. Best Buy or another plain jane electronics store probably won't have a big selection and I'm certain it would be overpriced. Order it online, I recommend newegg.com
2.5 hard dirve and mostly you can find it in Circuit city, best buy, target ( maybe ), amazon.com and newegg.com. Thats all the sites I know where I think you can get it at.
