Edit: Apparently if you update from CFW it will take away the feature to update via usb however, if you update to 3.50 official then update to 3.56, it wont take it away.

Yes and also they cant patch the recovery for risk of non-fixable bricks so you should still have the update via usb option in the recovery menu

Your update got ****ed up on 1 part yeh, But you are correct you can no longer run homebrew on 3.56 tried and tested with 2ps3.
