Yes either do this or remove the mother board and put it in an oven, (can't rembember how hot) that's what Sony do when you send it back to them... Basically YLOD is just because of a crack in the Solder!
Heating and then cooling (melting slightly) will cause these cracks to reform... But if it's still in warranty then Sony should do it for free, all method's including sony's fix will have a 99% chance of the console reverting (going back to YLOD) Happy

Yes you can do it with an hair dryer but thats just a fast fix and wont hold long Winky Winky

i fix YLOD's and other Problems cuz i do it for my hobby Winky Winky

i fixed over 30 YLOD Ps3's but Not with a hairdryer of course :P

i do it with Hot Air Gun ( 350 Degrees )
Open up the Ps3 get the motherboard out and clean up the BGA's then heat them up and let em cool down Winky Winky Its Pretty Easy and Holds very long when yoy get some extra cooling Winky Winky

you can find some video's on youtube how to search for those with a Hot Air Gun Winky Winky

The Best who ever lived
I used the oven fix. 1st(assuming you've dis-assembled your PS3), you scrape off any remaining dried upp thermal paste. Remove any plastic(those soft things on MB) from the motherboard as well as the little silver battery(or else it will explode). You then put your motherboard on a slightly deep lasagna pan(this allows the motherboard to reflow while heating on both sides. Heat your oven to 425ºF and put the motherboard in for 10 minutes only. Once you remove, let it cool for 10-15 minutes. Then apply a dab of themal paste(I used Artic 5 thermal paste. $10 a Radio Shack) to those two squares on the motherboard. Then use an old credit card or something of that nature to coat evenly. Put PS3 back together and wha La. It should be working. Hope I helped.

EDIT: Hair Dryer does not work as it does not get up to at least 350ºF. You either use oven fix or Heat Gun.

EDIT: Here is the 1st vid of 6 on how to use the oven fix: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RovgIm-33k0[/ame]
