I have no idea. i think through psn as i put a fake email at the sign up stage but used my legit number

Well could be coincidence or not, since Sony is taking action soon against hackers, think it's indeed safe to just update to 3.56 and just forget about it till you are screwed.

Since I've got a mail instead of a text.

Edit: Also I guess you had to put in your phone number when you registered to PSN.
