yea makes sense if its scare tactics... if they were gonna ban us would just ban, wouldn't even bother sending us e-mail telling us to remove the hacks and stuff

i have an unmodified ps3 and i got the email. im going to ring them tomorrow, to see why i was sent the email

Well, I've checked both accounts that I have PSN accounts registered under, and as a completely unmodified PS3 user, I haven't gotten an email on either of those accounts. I don't know if it's scare tactics or not guys, I'd remove all of your custom firmware off of your PS3 just to be safe.
